RWM develops diversity white paper series
Rob
Wray Marketing is working with the Network
of Executive Women to produce a series of white papers
on the timely issue of diversity in management.
The first report, “Leveraging Diversity for
Competitive Advantage,” was released by the Network in January
to senior executives in the consumer products and retail industries.
A second white paper, “Women of Color: From Diversity to Power” will
be released later this year. More reports are planned throughout
2005.
The “Best Practices” series
is designed to promote gender and ethnic diversity in the consumer
products and retail industry.
According to research in the first
white paper, progress on management diversity has been slow. In
fact, the 1,500-word report cited “an
astonishing step back” in progress, quoting a Census Bureau
study showing that women’s share of executive positions declined
from 32 percent in 1990 to 19 percent in 2000. NEW Executive Director
Joan Toth said the report “is just one
of many efforts that will be launched in 2005 to help our sponsors
and members realize the full potential of management diversity.” In
addition to the white paper series, “NEW will continue to
consult and advise its members on diversity issues, hold networking
events,
facilitate mentoring, and champion the cause of industry diversity,” Toth
said.
